The History of Spice
Spice began life as an institute within the University of Wales,
Newport. Over a 6 year period the community credit systems developed
became increasingly successful in achieving neighbourhood cohesion and
engaging people in community services. Spice has now spun-out as an
independent organisation and with the support of the university and of
the Young Foundation in London we are now developing these applications
across England and Wales. For more information on our history please
refer to the report ‘Spice, Looking Back’
Spice
Training & Support
Spice time credit systems can simply and affordably be integrated into public and community services. Spice provides training and support to community and public service organisations that wish to develop this with their community.

Spice
Principles
- Know Your Assets
Successful engagement of people, relies upon finding out what interests
them and what they are able and willing to contribute
- Create a 2 Way Street
Thanking people for their contribution, increases the number of people
involved and redefines the way services are delivered
- Look Upstream
Engaging people ‘upstream’ eases pressure on
‘downstream’ resources focused on problem solving and
dependency
Spice Development
Spice
looks for funding for pilots from progressive grant making
organisations committed to engaging people.
