Over 2000 hours of time given in Wisbech since November 2014! Official figures confirm the appetite for Time Credits in communities.
"I was stunned & honoured to be the Time Credit volunteer to have completed the 1000th hour at Orchards School. I don't count the hours I volunteer, I just like helping the children.” - Mandy, a volunteer at the Orchard C of E Primary School
I’m the Time Credits Facilitator in Cambridgeshire and I’m excited to be writing my first piece on the project and where we are currently. Our figures are showing the reach Time Credits have had in the area, which is fantastic but let me paint explain a little about the project. The project had been piloted by Cambridgeshire County Council and was fully launched in Wisbech in November 2014. The launch event was well attended with over 60 Organisations, the Deputy Mayor and Press in attendance.
Following such interest I have been training groups in the Wisbech area. One of the stories so far is that Volunteers at the Orchard C of E Primary School in Wisbech have amassed a total of 1000 voluntary hours.
Mandy, a volunteer at the Orchard C of E Primary School, was surprised by staff with flowers as the member who helped the school reach a milestone. Mandy said:
“I was stunned and honoured to be the Time Credit volunteer to have completed the 1000th hour at Orchards School. I don’t count the hours I volunteer, I just like helping the children. More importantly Orchards School has now received over 1000 hours of help from all the Time Credit Volunteers, that’s brilliant!”
Overall, 171 volunteers in Wisbech have earned over 2000 Time Credits helping their local community with activities such as window cleaning, supporting sessions at the local youth club, and maintenance and reading clubs. Children’s Centres in Wisbech are also taking part in the scheme. Members recently organised a Bingo event at the Queen Mary Centre to help bring people together and offer an opportunity for members to spend their Credits.
The network has seven Partners and two more are just launching.
Abbey People were the first group in Cambridge to take up Time Credits.
CHS Housing, one of our partners, just had their inaugural Time Credits training day and will soon be rolling.
There are more exciting times ahead for Cambridgeshire Time Credits, we’re launching in North and East Cambridge in the spring! Keep checking the site or chat to one of the team for more information.
