Safety
Engaging,
empowering and respecting people leads to a safer community. How do you
engage the disillusioned communities and those at risk of committing
crime?

Achieving Community Support
Spice credits value time contributed by
citizens either directly to community safety initiatives or towards
creating cohesive active communities. Time given may be given directly
to ‘street ambassador’ programmes, victim support groups,
police consultations or profile raising campaigns. Time given
indirectly may be towards supporting and organising community social
events, fetes and carnivals. These indirect opportunities, designed
particularly as an intervention to engage isolated people and young
people ‘at risk’ of social exclusion and antisocial
behaviour. Community Support Officers being at the forefront of issuing
credits and thereby acknowledging people’s contributions to
support the building of positive relationships.
Increased
Community Support
- Improved
community relationship with the police and better reporting of local
crime
- Improved
sense of community belonging and reductions in petty crime and
anti-social behaviour
- Police
services which are more targeted towards local concerns and community
agendas.
