Julie Smith, Team Westminster Ambassadors: Time Credits enabling wellbeing experiences

Julie Smith has been regularly volunteering with Team Westminster Ambassadors for 4 years. As an Ambassador, Julie earns Time Credits for being a friendly face and providing local information for visitors coming to events in Westminster ranging from the London Marathon to film premieres.

Getting Time Credits for time she gives is a big incentive for Julie to get more involved in volunteering. She says,

“it’s rewarding to get Time Credits, it’s really nice to get something back. It gives me that extra motivation to get involved.”

For Julie, volunteering has helped build her confidence, develop her skills and take on more responsibility by becoming a team leader for other volunteers. She was even recommended for a Westminster Community Award for what she has been doing to support the community in Westminster. It has also helped her make new friends and be more sociable. She says,

“I enjoy the social side of volunteering; meeting up with people and socialising through volunteering. Some people are isolated and volunteering helps bring people together which I think is a really good thing.”

Julie has been spending her Time Credits at T’ien Beauty School for beauty treatments such as a full body massage and an Indian head massage. She said

“I have been quite a few times, I think I have had everything! Going for beauty treatments has changed a lot, it is something to look forward to and I feel more relaxed and that my well-being is better.”

Getting back into work is an important goal for Julie and she’s excited about using her Time Credits to enrol on some courses at City Lit, who have recently opened up even more courses to Time Credits, to help with this. She said,

“I am really excited about using my Time Credits at City Lit, it really opens up lots of opportunities for me. I am hoping to do a few courses including one to develop my computer skills to help me get into work.”

Julie feels Time Credits have made a big difference for her. She says,

“I wouldn’t do anything really if it wasn’t for Time Credits. Being out of work is not very nice. Time Credits has given me that boost to say I am going to do this today; that little extra encouragement to get out and meet new people and try new things.”
